Spirit of Zorba
“Spirit of Zorba” is a limited-edition bronze sculpture bearing the engraved signature of the internationally recognized actor and artist, Anthony Quinn .
Anthony Quinn hand sculpted an original clay maquette, on a wire armature of himself, in the costuming and dance pose best identified with his most famous role as Zorba.
The original clay maquette was then cast into solid bronze and patinated, by the authority of, and under the direct supervision of Anthony Quinn, who indicated his approval by inscribing his name onto the sculpture.
The highly respected Tallix Foundry in Peekskill, New York worked with the artist in creating the moulds from which the bronze casting was executed.
This sculpture is approximately 18” tall and is mounted on a marble base and is individually numbered PC 28/49.
Mr. Quinn personally presented this special work of art to his longtime friend, President Ronald Reagan, in an official ceremony in The Oval Office of the White House, in October of 1984.
“Spirit of Zorba” was one of two closely related sculptures by
Anthony Quinn; the other similar work, in a different pose, was titled,
“Song of Zorba.” Collectively the two sculptures are known as
“The Presidential Collection.”
